2-5 January 2007
Originally there were supposed to be 8 of us heading into the Eldorado cabin, but illness and work commitments knocked us down to 6. Unfortunately the loss of trail breaking, load hauling machine "Frank" was to cause some plan changes on day 1. We did manage to get into the cabin on the second day, but then Tony tried to scalp himself with his ski tip, this brought the trip to a premature ending, at least for Tony and myself. Still it was good to get out we got a couple of good runs in and it is always good to hang out with friends. |

Problem #1 |
Problem #2 |
The end result |
Our 2 sleds, carrying 3 people per trip quickly deteriorated to 1 sled carrying 1 person. There was too much snow to carry 2 on the first sled and the second broke down on the first run. |
Plenty of trees had fallen across the road about 1km from the planned dropoff point. Even with them all cleared the sled went no higher than this. Photo by Tony Chan |
The late dropoff, rain at the bottom of the road, heavy trailbreaking, and foggy conditions all resulted in a bivy about 2km short of the cabin. We spent a moderately comfortable night in a snow cave. Photo by Tony Chan |

With views like this, any memories of discomfort from the night before quickly disapear. |

Tony's Last Run |
Looking NE, the cabin is down the the left. |
The tops of the ridges were pretty wind hammered, but once off the tops the snow was pretty good. |
Tony ripping it up, he did fine on this slope then crashed on the flats on the way to lunch. |

Some head to ski tip contact gave Tony a 2" long gash in his forehead. |
3 of us headed up for one more run just as the sun was setting. |

I headed back to the cars with Tony so he could get his head checked. |
