Rogers Pass

19 to 21 February 2005

Looking for some of the legendary Rogers Pass powder, Craig, Frank, Helen and I headed up to the Asulkan Valley for a couple of days. As it had not snowed for a couple of weeks, the snow was getting a bit windblown, but the weather was amazing and we managed to find pockets of good snow where it was a bit more protected.

Unfortunately the hut was full, so we had to camp out.

The hut is basically a small metal box, more of an emergency shelter than a hut.

The Retreat

The snow was faceted and rotten on the pitch just below the summit, so we ended up backing off and climbing back down the ridge.

The last day we toured up Young'sPeak and then skied out over the Illecillewaet Glacier.

Heading towards the Illecillewaet on the last day.
