Nancy and I took 2 months off to ride our bikes around Central Asia. Starting in Kazakhstan we rode west then south, entering Kygryzstan just north of Biskek. After just over 3 weeks touring and hiking we returned to Kazakhstan and rode though the south east corner of the country on our way to China. Entering China near Korgas, we headed to Yinning, continuing east for about 150km. This ended at a police check point where we were stopped by the police and had to return to Yinning. Permits for the area to the east were not possible to get, so we took a more northerly route and headed through Urumqi to Turpan. Here the cycling portion of our trip ended. From then on it was trains all the way to Hong Kong, with stops in Xian, Chengdu and Guilin. |
